MSI Wind U120
MSI Wind U120 is the representative of the second generation netbooks from this Taiwan manufacturer that is why in this review I will compare from time to time it to the previous models – in particular, U100. In comparison with predecessors, in appearance netbook there were cardinal changes. U120 it will be delivered only in one colouring – black-and-white. It something rather reminds scale of another netbook – Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Mini that developers recognise also. White the keyboard and partially device end faces are made a glossy cover netbook, a matte support under wrists. By black luster are covered a framework round the display and space over the keyboard.
Also it is necessary to notice that the design netbook became sharper and “angular” that is expressed in more rigid the outlined sides and is minimum rounded corners. Besides, the design of loops, and now the bottom part of a cover netbook abroach not have been a little changed so far “calls in” for the working panel.
The keyboard netbook has not undergone changes at alternation of generations. The general sizes of the keyboard block, as well as each button separately, have not changed. Except for this feature the keyboard has turned out enough quite good. Keys are pressed smoothly and softly, work accurately. Separately it is necessary to tell that in MSI, probably, have gone on a principle and have left key Fn extreme at the left in bottom to a number – there where in the majority of keyboards is Ctrl. However, both variants of an apportion have the historical substantiations that is why dispute on what of them is more correct, usually outgrows in classical in which never happens winners.
The sizes of the touch panel have not changed – they make 4 х 5,4 sm, – but “the shaking” key has turned in two separate buttons, to work with which much more pleasantly. However, has not managed and without oversights: the matter is that the top parts of keys near the touch panel are normally and accurately pressed only, bottom react to pressing somehow unwillingly and through time.
The block of office indicators all as represents 8 light-emitting diodes of the different colours displaying the status of the battery and wireless modules, the reference to a hard disk, etc. a little strange seemed to me absence of the separate indicator for display of activity of the 3,5G-modem – it seems to me, it at all would not prevent. One more strangeness also is connected with communications: I long tried to disconnect simultaneously Wi-Fi and the modem, but and could not. It turns out that or it is a sample problem, or completely to disconnect wireless modules it is possible only through BIOS or the dispatcher of devices.
To great my pleasure the display netbook has appeared matte, despite a glossy framework round it. The display diagonal makes 10,2 inches, the working permission – 1024 х 600 points. It is necessary to note rather solid stock of brightness: I absolutely easy worked on the fifth of eight possible steps in well shined premise. Also the display is characterised by wide corners of the review across and verticals.
netbook MSI Wind U120 works on the basis of platform Intel Atom which de facto became the standard of this class of devices. Technical characteristics also are quite ordinary, behind an exception unless, a hard disk on 160 Gb – of such volume of accessible space while can brag not all netbooks. Judging by the designations put on the keyboard, in serial copies U120 function of “dispersal” of the processor as it was in Wind U100 will be accessible. In a sample pressing of a corresponding combination of keys in what has not resulted, but at desire it is possible to look at tests of the previous model – I think, the special difference will not be.
I can not tell that developers MSI have really considered and have corrected all errors of the first generation netbooks, but something, certainly, it became better. The keyboard with the made narrower buttons and mediocre touchpad afflicts. Pleases pleasant design (without considering a glossy framework of the display), the capacious battery and, of course, presence of the integrated modem. By the way, it is the first netbook from everything that I tested, supplied with working 3G-module.
